Featured Projects: Shell Wharf 6 Capital Replacement Project
In May 2012, Shell Refinery in Pulau Bukom was looking to demolish six breasting dolphins at Wharf 6 as well as one dolphin located at Wharf 5 as part of its 2-Phase upgrading of its existing wharf facilities. The second phase would consist of construction of four breasting dolphins and one mooring dolphin. Steel Pipes were used and a tight time frame was required in delivering the pipes to the project. Mer Lion Metals provided the steel pipes within the tight time frame – manufactured and delivered to Singapore within 3.5 weeks.
The contractor, HSL Constructor Pte Ltd. required all pipes to be delivered to their Penjuru Yard where it would be further spliced into longer lengths and thereafter sent by barge to site. Due to space constraints, Mer Lion Metals provided staggered delivery as per customer’s request so that splicing work could be done in the tight space at the staging yard.
82 pieces of 762mm Outside Diameter pipes were delivered with bevels for ease of splicing within 3.5 weeks. The pipes were rolled within 2 weeks of the Purchase Order and a further 1.5 weeks for the transit of the pipes to Singapore.
